    Question Java EE:Servlets and JSP's or a web framework(spring)

Hey guys I have been learning servlets and JSP's for a little while now and managed to get a simple web app up. I really want to get a job (software engineering) in another country and I have been learning core java for about 6 months or so and love java. I was just looking around and JSP's and servlets are pretty 'old school' some people say. Is it worth learning JSP's and servlets? I know all the web frameworks are built on top of them but does this knowledge make it useful in the future? I don't mind JSP's and servlets and I really love programming in java and not so much xml stuff(some is necessary I get that) or other non java stuff.

Java itself is now over 20 years old, so pretty much old school. Here you are, learning it. Now you're trying to state the hypothetical case that because servlets & JSPs are old school, they're not worth learning.

Yes - its very much worth it to learn. Not only is it a relatively easy introduction into Java web development, it also teaches you many important core concepts of the web that modern frameworks tend to hide from you. JSPs might not be so useful for your future career, but servlets will remain your friend for as long as JavaEE exists as they're useful little things for all kinds of purposes.

In before you ask for useful material to read:

I wish I would get paid for posting that exact link; I'd be rich by now.

    Not all of them.
By far and away most of them, but not all.

    Just a minor correction...:)
Please do not ask for code as refusal often offends.
