Default New to java would like some help

    Hi,
I'm relatively new to programming. I tried Scratch, Stencyl and Gamemaker Studio (GMS) before. Now I'm currently taking Java classes. However I have some trouble understanding how the whole game logic of Java works. If someone knows Gamemaker Studio that would be great since I'm also very familiar with it. Now I'm trying to rewrite the game from GML to Java since it's more advanced and more flexible.

In GMS there's something called rooms, where it houses instances and it has some basic properties like the background, the speed and the dimensions. So in my game I would have like a room for the main menu and for the actual game. How do I implement this in Java?

Also, how do I read/write an ini file? Are there built in functions for it?

And lastly I'm still not clear about the differences between fields, methods, and constructors. I hope someone can explain them to me in layman terms

Thanks a lot for reading! Any help would be appreciated

    fields, methods, and constructors.
A good place to look is the tutorial: The Really Big Index

the whole game logic of Java
Java is a general purpose programming language that can be used to write many different types of applications including games. There are probably third party packages that provide some helpful logic.

how do I read/write an ini file?
A class I use is the Properties class. It has methods for reading and writing properties files. See the API doc: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs...roperties.html

    Also keep this link: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/8/docs/api/index.html

If you don't understand my response, don't ignore it, ask a question.

Then there is no way for you to make a game. You have to have 100 % understanding of these concepts just to follow the tutorials on how to make a games.

I don't know what the OP does or doesn't know. But it's amazing how many folks come to this forum with little or no knowledge of programming and want to program some complicated game. One person wanted to rewrite his own operating system to replace Windows. It's like, I just bought a piano and I really want to play Chopin's Fantasy Impromptu. But I'm having a hard time understanding 1/4 notes and 1/8 notes. And what does that . mean to the right of the note or rest?

    Regards,
    Jim
