    Default Multi-File Multi-Folder Programs

I am feeling pretty good about my java skills now and doing OK with a bit of Swing coding.
I see any serious code developers don't just write one long program, they use numerous file and folder and build libraries and such. For example, an Android app I am looking at has folders:
    .settings
    assets
    bin
    gen
    libs
    res
    src

and then other top level files are there too.
My question is this: Is there a standard organization format for multi-folder programs? Is there a standard set of folders commonly used and what typically goes in each folder. i.e. is there always a bin, src, and gen folder and what goes in them. Finally, where can I learn about the proper organization of these multi-folder programs, it is not discussed in my java books.

    Thanks,
    Drew
