Question i am debugging this error, could someone point me in the right direction?

Okay, uhm this is my first post here so sorry if its very noob.

i am setting up a old (2012 era) game server(tekkit classic 3.1.2) for my little brother and his friends, however there seems to be a critical error with one of the mods(debug log at bottom of post). what i find myself is that this problem is cross platform (this isnt my error log its one from the internet that basically exactly the same, i run it on ubuntu but that doesnt matter it seems, since this error also pops up on some windows and XOS machines), and that it likely is because the version of the .class file isnt compatible with the version of java that is installed. the server works fine when i remove this file, but then i dont have the mod needed. i dont want to run it on an older version of java because it might pose a security risk (although my firewall is strong, but im not sure if it even would pose a security risk). i read something about a script that could run a java application as an older java version, but im not quite sure how that works and some help with that would be appreciated (if that is the solution to my problem ofcource). my other possible solution would be to decompile the .class file and recompile it into a newer java .class file (is this even possible or am i crazy? this is just my guess after reading 15 min of java coding on forums about .class files and version collisions and backwards compatibility). if needed i can upload the full server files.

    thanks for the help! ~tjeulink

You need a newer version. Check the significance of major.minor versions here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_c...General_layout

thanks for the help! i will dig into it further, the (physical) server administrator installed java on the machine so im going to ask him about it and figure it out together. i cant confirm yet(since he isnt here) if it was the problem or not but thanks for the suggestion anyways !

Can you get a terminal to that server? If so, run java -version and see what you get. I'm going to guess that it will report Java 6, while the server minimally needs Java 7.
