Default Increase counter when a post is made?

I'm still relatively new to Java, and am especially weak when it comes to communicating with servers on the internet and such. I was wondering what the easiest way would be to keep track of everytime someone makes a new post on reddit (social media site, for those who don't know). I want the program to keep track of the number of posts made with a counter, but that's the easy part. How do I set up a program to actually communicate with and monitor reddit's servers in this manner? Thanks in advance for any help!

Step 1: contact the owners of the site and ask if you're actually permitted to do that

Step 2: ask what methods they have of interfacing with their site (such as a webservice)

    Hello,

Perhaps you can do this with a http request.

You can find some documentation about Reddit API here reddit.com: api documentation

and I skimmed through the documentation and I think this particular section will help you out reddit.com: api documentation

    Thanks
