Default AES program - please help :)

    Hello everyone,

    Good day!

I am currently working on a requirement for a course work in network security. The topic assigned to me is the implementation of the AES algorithm using Java. I have searched the net and found a source code that I can use. I downloaded and copied everything but it didn't run as expected. I tried to review all the codes but to no avail. I emailed the author of the code but was not able to reply.

Would anyone care to read the codes and possibly guide me so that it will run.

I am using Eclipse and JavaSE 1.7.

I'm attaching ZIP file of the source code for your scrutiny.

    Thanks in advance.

What is required of you: to understand the AES encryption algorithm and be able to implement it; in this case it is chosen to use Java

What you do: rip someone else's code from some random place on the net

Perhaps reconsider the steps you're taking.

... and forget about all that Swing stuff in the code and concentrate on the AES.java part instead of downloading some random stuff and hoping that it should work (without you understanding the code).

    kind regards,

    Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply... I agree that I should concentrate on the AES part. I understand how AES works manually but have to implement it using a program, hence, I refer to this code because I believe it can be an opportunity for me to further study the algo in a live program. Unfortunately, I'm new to Java.

If I will not use Swing, it there a way for me to have an interface where I can enter a plaintext for encryption? and decrypt?

I would like to understand the code, as it is essential to the task at hand.

I hope you can guide me through.

    Many thanks.

Just a basic command prompt / shell application will be enough. That's Java 101, you're only going to do this when you actually make a time investment and learn the basics of Java programming. You may refer to the online tutorials, but you're better off getting a good book if you want to actually learn something in a reasonable time frame:

And for some additional info, go here --> Advanced Encryption Standard - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Even if you know how to do this, there is a link for some test vectors so you can verify your implementation.
