Default Advice about which Layout Manager to use

In this picture # 1, what I see is a panel in the left, and a panel in the right. The left panel has a menu, and the right panel has a few split panes (I hope those thin grey lines delimiting a section of information are split pane) showing different sections (for organizing the information shown). When the user clicks on the menu, its information is shown on the right panel.

I need to implement a similar idea. But since I haven't been able to strongly grasp the idea of layout managers, so I need advice about which layout manager to use in the parent frame which will contain the left and right panels.

The right side panel should be bigger (in width) than the left one, so I think Grid layout ruled out.

Then which layout manager to use in the left panel, so that it can contain a menu or a simple horizontal column of buttons.. I will like to resize the buttons (increase their size), so the layout manager should allow that.

Which layout should use in the right panel, in which I'd like to add split panes.

First, exercise a little patience. Six hours is a very short time to wait for a response. Second, use whatever layout that serves your purpose. Check out the tutorials on layout managers. As for the image, I am not familiar with that wizard. I do my layouts manually using layout managers in Eclipse.
