Default Problem with setting JAVA_HOME Environmental variable

    Could anybody help me...

I installed sun Java packages and set JAVA_HOME path,
    export JAVA_HOME=/usr/bin/java

    tried to link like below,

    ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun- /usr/bin/java
ln: creating symbolic link `/usr/bin/java': File exists

Now code is not compiling and getting error,

Error: JAVA_HOME is not defined correctly.
    We cannot execute /usr/bin/java/bin/java
    make: *** [all] Error 1

How to link jvm to /usr/bin/java?

What program requires the setting of that environment variable? Does it have documentation on how to set it for your OS?
It is not required for the JDK.
