Java Question
Hey,
I just got Java and am using Eclipse to write it, and am getting better.
I mainly got Java to make games. I mainly use Game Maker for games, but am drifting to Java as i learn it.
Be honest please, is Java any better for making games than Game Maker?
Because i don't really wanna take all this time to learn Java when i could take the easy road.
Though i also want to put a career into hand.
Does learning Java give me any career opportunities?
Thanks in advance!
ALSO: If this post is in the wrong place, please send me the post before you remove it, because i don't want to have to type this, a third time. THANKS!

Re: Java Question
Do what you want to do, really. C++ and Java are good game programming tools, but if you are competent in Game Maker, why change?

Re: Java Question
Well, I mainly still use Game Maker for making games, but I i kinda wanted to learn Java because it's more portable, and is trusted by Norton and other Firewalls.
But also, i was thinking of going into computer programming or graphic design as my job, so i wanted to hear from Java users to see if Java would boost my programming status to look good for bosses in that field!

Re: Java Question
Java would boost your programming status, for sure. As Java is a very quite hard language to learn, and will take a very long time to learn it properly. I'd suggest taking a course, depending on where you live, they should be available. Right now I'm studying my diploma in Programming, which is Database Design (MySQL, Access), C++, Linux, Java and Visual Basic.

Re: Java Question
Wow! You know a lot of languages.
I'm a sophomore in high school right now, and i'll check out some possible courses for next year.
Although there are A TON of tutorials on YouTube so, i'll stick to that for right now.

Re: Java Question
I don't exactly "know" them, I am just studying them. But once I have finished my diploma and have gone through University (Australian college), I am hoping to get into Software programming for a big corporation. Doing tutorials etc is ALWAYS a good thing! Having basic knowledge will make the school process a whole lot easier for you. Even doing basic web development will help you. Good luck to you, sir!

Re: Java Question
If you want to do programming, you will need to know more than one language (eventually though it's probably best to learn one at a time), and the language you pick now is not as important as you might think. Much more important is to learn to love programming, and to good coding habits and skills as these can be applied to any language.

Re: Java Question
@Fubarable: Yea, I like programming. It makes me feel like i'm accomplishing something! And i'm not sure, its just isn't bad.
And, if you could, can you tell me a few languages that would come the most in handy?
@Vampiricx3: I will certainly watch the tutorials! Here's the page for the tutorials, it has a series of them for a lot of different languages:
