    Fubarable, Thanks for the time and effort you put in to guiding me through this code... I decided not to give up in the end and read through more tutorials as well as your advice... Got my code working to some extent...

    I would say theres just one thing wrong, when I open up my program my text boxes don't have the sliders initial value automatically entered, you have to move the slider first of all... and the blength and areas dont change unless youve actually selected a shape from the jmenu, but other than that... The shapes get re-drawn and changes with the slider.

    Perhaps in one of your class's constructors you can set the values of your JTextFields with the JSlider's value, but only after all objects have been constructed.

    It sounds like your program is coming along (despite my "help") and so are you. I have a feeling you're going to do just fine in this course of studies.
