Hello Everyone!
I have W7 Home Premium
I am not knowledgeable with computer technicalities, especially Java.
I downloaded a new version of Data Crow. Was not able to put it into a final location - C:\programme files, I was told was not a possible path. Not knowing how to choose a path, I chose to delete it and continue with the version that I have.
I have deleted the WinRar file and it's attachments, however, one remains stubbornly fixed on the desktop!
I cannot delete it, when I try I am told that - "The action can not be completed because the file is open in Java (TM) Platform SE Binary" Information below states that it is an 'Executable JAR File, 1.51 MB.' The file is sitting on my desktop and will not open - when I try, there is a flash of black and it stays where it is!
Would someone please give me instructions how to delete this programme.
Thank you in advance for any input.
PS. I note that there are Poll Options and in this box is a number '4.' I have left this, but please explain what it is. I have not checked the "Yes" box.

This is a windows specific problem, not a java one. I suggest asking your question on a Microsoft forum.

quad64bit,
As I said in my questrion, I do not understand. Just imagine anyone thinking that this had anything to do with Java. It seems I joined for no reason - just because it had Java on it- So sorry to have troubled you.
Thanks for your input.
Case closed. I can not see how to close this thread, would you be so kind as to do this for me please? (Or maybe I should ask in a Windows forum!! Joke!!)

Hey, no need to get sarcastic. I'm sorry if my answer was too concise for you, I was simply trying to say, that you would not have this specific problem in MacOS or Linux, therefor it is not a java issue but a windows one. Why windows can't seem to terminate its java resources is beyond the scope of most java related questions, as they are OS specific. You don't go see the engineer who designed the faulty part in your engine when your check engine light comes on, you go to a dealership or the like for your make/model car. Good luck.

Quad64bit,
Thank you for your reply.
Sarcasm was the last thing on my mind, I apologise if that was how it appeared.
My point was that, not understanding technical problems - which I thought that this might come under - I was trying to jokingly suggest that where else would I go but to a Java forum when the problem "appeared" to me to be concerned with Java.
Being well past my sell-by date, and retired, I had no wish to waste your time. The Medical Profession abounds with time-wasters!
Please realise that no offence or insult was intended.
Regards,
Colin

In that case, just a misunderstanding. I'm sorry for your trouble, you are not foolish to see 'java' and then seek out a java forum. I stand by my statement that its a windows thing however, one thing you might try is starting in safe mode, see if you can then delete the file in question, then restart normally again. Best of luck!

Quad64bit,
Thanks, glad there are no hard feelings!
I will have a 'go' at the safe mode startup and failing that, go to Windows for assistance.
Regards
Colin.

Quad64bit,
Hello, SUCCESS!! I had a quick try at the safe mode - there was a moment of indecision as I was given 4 choices, two were CD Writers and I took 'pot-luck.' Failed with the firsat choice and on the second, I deleted the file.
Many thanks. Can you close this thread, please?
Regards
Colin.
(PS. It was a good idea to come to Java, after all!!)

Ha! Glad to hear it. I don't have the power to close the thread, I'm just a member. You however can, somewhere in the options. You should find some extra buttons either on this page or on your account page to do so. Good luck, hope you have a great year!
