You may wish to give us more details about your requirements and also the typical contents of the file. Perhaps it's me, but I find myself having a hard time figuring out just what you're trying to do based on the information you've provided.

Creating simple mazes is easy; imagine rooms with four walls each. Also imagine you're standing in one of those rooms; now remove the wall between the room you're in and a room that still has all its four walls. Move to the other room (you have just removed the wall) and repeat the process.
If no such room can be found from the current room find another room that has at least one wall removed and is next to a room that still has all of its four walls.
If again no such room can be found you have been in all rooms. Simply cut and entry and an exit somewhere and voila.
kind regards,
JosBuild a wall around Donald Trump; I'll pay for it.

Can you give us more information about your TextIO class as I don't believe that it's part of standard Java. What company makes it? Do they have a web site?
And regarding "colored blocks" -- is your program a GUI? And if not, how are you planning on showing colors on the console?
