Default Question about the write method in DataOutput

The description of the method states:
"Writes to the output stream the eight low-order bits of the argument b. The 24 high-order bits of b are ignored."

I don't understand what is the meaning of ignoring the 24 high-order bits, does that mean that you write a different value than the original int argument to the output stream?

I have a similar problem with many of the other methods in that interface since the same description repeats.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Seems you've solve the problem yourself. So if you can, it's better to post here how you solve it. Your comment may be useful for other members in some cases. In most of the cases people look into solved threads.
