    Question Database/Program Question PLEASE HELP

Ok I have a project that I have to start working on. I was just wondering if someone could give me some advice or guidance on where to start...what to do...just break down the assignment a little better for me. Im going to talk to the teacher tomorrow, but wanted to get something going tonight that i have a feeling that he's not going to be much help, but here's the assignment.

Design a software system that can be used by the University to handle dormitory roommate matching. Students who apply for University admission are required to stay on campus. Students enter their profile using this Web-based system, and fill out a requested profile for the roommate (assume two students to a dorm room). Student residence authorities will use the system to automatically pick possible roommates based on their profiles, and their profile requests.

I need to at least compare my profile to another. I can use a database and whatever programming language. Any hints, tricks or flips would be beneficial.

Uhm, this is definately not a beginner assignment, and juding by a seemingly complete cluelessness that maybe just this post portrays I have to wonder what you've been doing in class.

This post implies that you don't have the first clue. And, if that's the case, then just admit it and ask to be excused from the course.
