    Question request.getRequestDispatcher(resource).forward(req uest, response); help!

I need help trying to find out what this does. I know you use it to display things in a JSP file or whatever but what actually does this do. I checked the docs and I still didn't get a solid understanding of what is does.

Rather than trying to focus on code, try to research what a "servlet forward" is.

And to make that more specific, try to research what the difference between a redirect and a forward is.
