Default How to use Java and C++ to create softwares, gaming engines, video games etc...?

I am interested in using Java and C++ to create softwares, gaming engines and video games using those programs. Yet after studying each for 1-2 semesters and reading the college textbook 1/4-1/2 of the way we are still learning very basic things. In the second semester of Java we created a simple applet. We imported java.awt.*, java.awt.event.* and java.applet.*. The Java textbook is Building Java Programs published by Pearson and the C++ textbook is Starting out with C++ also Pearson published. I see this place lists and sells these textbook: Pearson - Computer Science . Maybe for those things I should look into computer graphics?

Having a basic knowledge of computer graphics is not a bad idea. But I doubt that a computer science book on computer graphics is what you really want. Those books, which are primarily for CS majors, are (or used to be) used for teaching how to actually write graphics routines. For example, how do you really rotate an object in two or three dimensional space and show the proper aspect changes? How do you handle hidden line problems (when rotating a solid cube, the edges disappear and others reappear as the cube is rotated). So these types of books are heavily math oriented. What you probably want is a book describing how to use 2D and 3D graphics objects which are part of the OpenGL and similar graphics packages. I just thought you should be aware of this.

Note: having explained the difference I cannot recommend any books on the subject as I am unfamiliar with them.

    Regards,
    Jim

Moved from New to Java to Forum Lobby.

The repeated links make me think it might be a better fit in Reviews/Advertising.
