Default Is it worth it to go to school for computer programming?

I've recently been considering it but I know virtually nothing about programming. I don't know the difference between one programming language and the next or why there even need to be so many and why they get old and replaced by new ones. I don't know what it's like to program what it entails or how long it takes. I've heard some people will write code for 4 days straight with no sleep.

Anyway if anyone would like to share their experiences with programming that would be great. Also is there any way I could quickly learn one of the languages and try to program something for myself to see if I enjoy it? I was thinking about taking a class at my local community college about programming also.

Why not first try to learn some programming on your own and see how you take to it. That's how most of us learned to do this.
