    Default Maven - naming conventions and directories

    I am new to Maven.
    When I create a new project, I open a terminal, go to my eclipse workspace root directory, and type this:

    $ mvn archetype:generate -DarchetypeArtifactId=maven-archetype-quickstart

    Then, I assign the variables groupId and artefactId as follows:

    groupId: com.myself.firstapp
    artefactId: firstapp

    This will create the project in a folder called "firstapp".

    Is this standard and/or recommended?
    Wouldn't it be better to call it "com.myself.firstapp"?

    The project folder is "firstapp". If you look under the src/main/java directory you will see com/myself/firstapp as your default package directory.
