    Default Can't get Maven Installed

    I am very new to Java and I'd think this is probably answered somewhere but I can't find it. Maybe it is so simple for most people it isn't answered.

    I am running Windows on my home computer and want to learn how to program in Java because several employers I'd like to work for want that, specifically programming Java using Maven.

    I've manage to load Java, jGrasp and Netbeans. I've written the basic baby "Hello World" program and it worked.

    But I can't get Maven loaded. There is some basic steps I just don't understand.

    I downloaded the zip file and unpacked it to (C:\Users\Game-Tower\gradle-2.3-rc-4).

    I added to the environment path (C:\Users\Game-Tower\gradle-2.3-rc-4\bin) which I think I was supposed to do.

    After that, I am stuck.

    Is there some step by step beginners guild for the clueless?

    The maven homepage has several guides on setting it up: Maven ? Welcome to Apache Maven

    But if you're just starting out with Java, why are you even using maven at all?

    Hi Kevin,

    I tried going to the Apache Maven home page and look around, but get stuck.

    I did figure out how to get the program installed. I found a page which provided me the answer to install it: (Maven and Java_Home - zghthy.com).

    I had to create new system variables:
    JAVA_HOME = C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31
    CLASS_PATH = C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.8.0_31\bin\lib
    Insert (C:\Users\Game-Tower\apache-maven-3.2.5\bin) into system variable PATH, making sure not to delete or change anything else set in the PATH.
    Create new user variables:
    ME = C:\Users\Game-Tower\apache-maven-3.2.5\bin
    M2_HOME = C:\Users\Game-Tower\apache-maven-3.2.5
    MAVEN_OPTS = -Xms256m -Xmx512m

    Once I did that, I could run (MVN --version) and get the version installed.

    But, I still don't know how to write a simple program like "Hello World".

    I am taking Java at San Diego City College, using jGRASP. I have also installed NetBeans and written a program in that.

    But, BAE Systems wants me to be familiar with writing JAVA in MAVEN.

    So...

    How do I write a super simple program using MAVEN like:

    class HelloWorldApp {
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    System.out.println("Hello World!"); // Display the string.
    }
    }

    Moved from New to Java to Apache Maven.

    Maven will need a JDK, not a runtime.

    I have JDK loaded.

    I have MAVEN loaded.

    What do I do to write a simple program?

    For example, if I use jGRASP instead of MAVEN then I:

    1) launch jGRASP
    2) select <file><new><java>
    3) start typing in the program

    To write in NetBeans follows a similar path, but first starts with making a project.

    Then I come to MAVEN, which if I launch it does not exactly launch. It comes up with an error about scanning for projects and failing to find them.

    So there must be some process required to write a JAVA program prior to launching MAVEN, but I have not found something that explains this to a beginner so that I can know what to do in order to write a program as simple as "Hello World".
