Default Issue while creating new Maven project in eclipse

    Hi Friends,

This is the first time I am doing a hands on on BDD using cucumber. In order to do so, I have installed Eclipse(eclipse-JEE-4.3.2) in my system with which Maven(apache-maven-2.2.1) configured. Apart from these, JDK 1.6 is installed in my system.

Now, when I try to create a new Maven Project in eclipse, it throws following error :

    Failed to create project.
Unable to create project from archetype [org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:1.0 -> http://repo1.maven.org/maven2]
The desired archetype does not exist (org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:1.0)

I have tried changing the workspace of eclipse, but the same error is apearing.

Can any one help me with this issue

    Thanks

The version of Eclipse you are using comes with Maven 3 embedded, so perhaps you manually configuring Maven 2.2.1 has broke some things.

Try googling for the error you get such as "The desired archetype does not exist (org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:1.0)", you are not first to have this problem.

    Hi gimbal2,

I created a fresh setup, and this time did not install Maven, and got another error, that you have mentioed :

The desired archetype does not exist (org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:1.0) The desired archetype does not exist (org.apache.maven.archetypes:maven-archetype-quickstart:1.0).

I googled this issue, and tried some of the fixes, but still I am at the same point. Also, I wanted to mention here that, there is no "settings.xml" file in .m2 folder in my system. I tried creating one by myself and copied content from thos suggestions as well, but it did not help.

I don't really have any further advice, I don't use archetypes to create my Mavenized projects, I just create a "simple" maven project and setup the poms myself (by copy/pasting as much as I can from existing projects).

You don't need any special settings.xml, the one in the Maven installation is sufficient for most purposes.
