    Default Web services packet limit?

I have a web service (not written by me) that enables me to execute an SQL query from a remote computer. When I use a query that results in a lot of rows (over 5,000) I get a general error back.
    Java Code:
    java.rmi.RemoteException: General error
A friend said something about a limit on how much a web service can transfer, is this true? and if so, how can I remove this limit, if at all?

Do you have access to an API or manual for this web service? I suppose there might be a limit for the particular web service you are using. You need to share more information about the software you are using.
