    Default Create an array of Vectors

    How do I create an array of Vectors? Suppose I want a regular old array of Vectors that hold Strings.

    Java Code:
    private Vector<String>[] list;
    list = new Vector<String>[5];
    I get a compiler error complaining about generic array creation.

    For one, I would use ArrayList and not Vector, Vector has a lot of overhead that you don't need. Secondly, the error message is right, you can't create a "generitised" array. Again, use an ArrayList.

    Java Code:
    List<List<String>> list = new ArrayList<List<String>>();
    list.add(new ArrayList<String>());
