Default Best XML parser that runs on J2SE

HI!! i am a newbie and dont know if i am in the right section of the forum.
I am searching for the best XML Parser that runs on java framework that would run fast and safe during parsing through large data and check for broken links and collect data and stuff. i have checked J2SE 1.4 with JDK 5.0 which was given pretty bad reviews. Also, I checked xerces and a couple of other xml parser but i dont know which one to go for. Any suggestions to help me choose would be appreciated.
