Point System
I was wondering if the web master had the ability to add a point system to these forums. What I was thinking was a new user could start out with so many points and for every so many posts that user makes he or she would get so many more points. Then on top of that the user can give his or her points to another user. After a user has so many points maybe they could have maybe more lines for their signature or something along those lines. I have seen a system like this on other sites before and was hoping you guys could add it to this site.

This was suggested in the past.. although I can't find it at the moment... Anyways, our goal at the beginning was to keep members on an even keel, in other words - every one here should be thought of being equal. I think even our current point/reputation system is a bit much and unneeded, but it was added into the interface early.

reputation system is a bit much
I agree, reputation (s) are a form of social negotiation and have nothing to do with raw code. As well it introduces positioning for favorable treatment when one should be either focused, totally focused, or at least paying attention to the code problem rather than the social pages.
Sometimes one can make half-wit jabs as a survival effort to keep going, reputations are a counter-measure to that that is appropriate for someplace that is worried about screen names more than advanced issues.
