I was not aware of the spam problem. What is the current state?
There was a plugin to fight with the spam and it was working fine. Is it still in a usable state?

I will help as much as i can.

Apparently the plugin doesn't do its job (anymore). Spammers have found a way to create accounts and post a spam post every minute or so. This thread is an example of that: Where to place "openTo()" command to make it work?. Besides this being annoying, it also pollutes the "activity" and "what's new". On top of that, if you have participated in a thread you get an email update containing spam. You have to revisit the thread to get the proper notifications as well.

Unfortunately I am just a concearned forum user, and not a moderator. If I was, I would have nabbed spammers/spam where I could. I do have the PHP knowledge to be able to update vBulletin if necessary.

If you need my help with anything, just give me a shout. I know the users JosAH, Tolls, KevinWorkman, Darryl Burke, Norm and probably others are doing the best they can, but lately it's fighting against Sarumans army... :( I would be glad to chip in as well.

Cheers, and thanks for your attention.
After that, it's gone silent. It looks like the spam got reduced a bit or is that just me?

MTrumper (first 2 letters uppercase and rest a possible european name)
If you don't understand my response, don't ignore it, ask a question.

No. It's a forum. How many hits do you think this forum gets through Google because of some coding issue people looked up?

Yeah. Forums are a great location to find answers. I cannot count how often I searched on google and then read threads in forums. It is often not a direct answer but you get pieces to build your own solution.

So I would always vote against wiping a forum.

What the heck kind of suggestion is that, wipe the forum??? That's like fighting a mild rash with a flamethrower.

@BigK: answers is not specific enough. You come here... for TRUTH.

Oh yes of course. Here you find the TRUTH ....
But I was active on .Net forums so of course all I could find was 'answers' that nobody (here) needs :)

I still have to learn that I am now no longer on the evil side :)

Puh! You are weak with your flamethrower. I always cut off my arm when I have an itch. I can prove that it works: I have done it now two times, and I never have an itch on my arms anymore!!

    Question Re: Fighting spam

    .. There aren't any "rules" posts / threads / a forum? o.0

(Not seeing many sticky threads, either, btw. :))

P.S. ^^ Not that it would help, most probably, meh.

    Edit: Hm, Forum Rules.

Hi guys first time i post or reply!
no need to wipe the forum or anything, what we need is an admin to come around and set someone as vise admin which can change the forum settings.
just to let you know i've seen forums with many different rules to prevent spams. Example: new users can't post or reply till 3 days after joining the forum. Example 2: new signed up users won't be members of the forum till admin accept them.
and so on, so many ways to keep the forum safe.

    Regards
