Not much really pal. I just want to say that, you really think it is better to have AI and Math sub forums in our community. Is that right?
- 05-02-2008, 06:10 AM #23
Yeah something to that extent. Both of these are major topics in programming. I have looked around other forums, and only one had a decent forum, and it was for C++. Also I keep seeing people ask the math questions over and over and it would be nice if these could go into one nice neat forum.

Hmm, I already check on few larger community in programming. Only few used such forums. Even on Suns' web site I can't find such a thing pal.

I know that is why I said only one place had such a forum, but it was for C++. If you wanted to attract new visitors, add something none of the other sites have.

It's really difficult to answering your question pal. Since I have AI, Maths and else sub forums, new visitors can be or not attractive to our community. Major reason is there are hundreds of larger AI, Maths communities can be found. May be much greater than ours.

So what if there's others I think what you guys should strive for is a one stop shop. If I was looking for a forum to join I would want to join one that could answer all my questions, rather than have to sign up for multiple forums to answer each of my questions. That is why I joined this forum, but you guys still haven't answered most of my question I have personally asked.

Ok, first of all. Forum is not a place where all those things discuss pal. May be it can happened, but I don't see any. Reason for that it's not easy to manage such a big community.
And also, people who own such communities not doing it just for fun. They are expecting something.(specially money.) Person to person it's different. Always they worried about maintain cost. Actually web marketing is out of scope this aspect pal.
By the way, what questions still don't get answered. Is that I misses anything for you?

If other forms like AI or Maths are added to this community then it will not be a specific Java Community. Our community will become a general.

You already have a general algorithms forum in here, why is it such a big deal to add a spot that analysis these things. Also there are very limited AI Tutorials or anything for Java. It is very difficult if you have no C++ background to take an AI program that is written in C++ and translate that into Java.
Heres my two topics that never got answered.

Ah, you are talking about threads that you don't get answered here. Even I have such things pal. It can be on any community, not only in ours. May be some points talking in the first time. So, no one can be known it.

One of the moderators said he had a background in AI and he just asked a question about what I meant, but never got back to me after I answered his question.

I don't know to whom you blame, but don't think that anyone cheat on you. May be that person busy with his duties. No one here work for fun, as I said earlier. They have to do there own job while dealing with this pal.
By the way, I think I remember that conversation. I'll see what can I do on it.

I'm not to worried about it, I was trying to to just prove a point. Also you seem to get very defense when I make a suggestion, even though this place is for suggestions.

I guess, this is me :)) Ok i will try to find your thread again.. But don t forget that everyone works on sth and we use the forum in our free times. So getting an answer is an extra for users, not our duty. One of the moderators said he had a background in AI and he just asked a question about what I meant, but never got back to me after I answered his question.
And regarding the math-ai forums: Again think about the visitors in general, you think math is necessary but another user think it is not necessary. You think, netbeans forum is unnecessary but another user think it is necessary. The thing here is to catch the needs of the majority. Netbeans and eclipse forums get enough posts, that means we catched the needs of the majority but i am pretty sure that math forum will not work because basically we are not much interested in math. This does not mean we dont have math experts or someone really interested in math... I guess you will understand what i mean.. There is no clear rules while deciding to open a new forum. There are lots of variables effecting it. This is why i am careful about this but still want to hear new opinions."The sole cause of man’s unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room." - Blaise Pascal

Finally someone who doesn't get completely defensive about my suggestions. I never meant for you to take what I said and make it happen. I was just providing suggestions. I was hoping that more of your members would join this discussion, but apparently not. I never said or if I did say meant to get rid of the eclipse and net beans forums I meant to merge them together. and those two I think you do have enough activity on. I was mostly looking at forums where there is less than 10 threads, and even worse less than 30 post. I'm not sure how long this forum has been here, but its kinda of sad if a whole forum has threads with zero post in each, and those threads were created in Nov 2007.

I'm not anger sorry if I sound angry. I really do appreciate all the time you guys take into making this a great forum. I know you guys don't make any money off of this website accept the owner may or may not depending on how he/she has this site setup. Hopefully you guys will take my two cents. Once again I was hoping that other members would comment on this topic too.

Actually, i believe others understand you correctly. Nobody wants to blame on somebody. The stress because of the discussion just increases by time. The need to describe what we mean with finite number of words is another problem. :)Finally someone who doesn't get completely defensive about my suggestions.
Very short compared to other forums! Apprx. 1 year old with long offline periods because of server problems. (this is harmful for forum more than someone can imagine)I'm not sure how long this forum has been here
We know. But it is getting better and better..I'm not sure how long this forum has been here, but its kinda of sad if a whole forum has threads with zero post in each
In overall, thanks for your comments. Note that most of the proposal implemented lately on the forum are not implemented immediately. I like giving time to the ideas (if they are not obviously perfect and/or not harmful ideas in any way) to get mature in my mind."The sole cause of man’s unhappiness is that he does not know how to stay quietly in his room." - Blaise Pascal
