how to get rid of my "red" mark?
hello!
I got this lovely "red" mark on my account from that [Moderator edit: word removed] Darryl! (just kidding, you're great Darryl ;-P) Since then I've asked some good (i think) questions and tried to help others out with good thought out answers... so how do I get the "red" mark back to a positive looking "green" mark? thanks!
EDIT: actually it was Fubarable! **shakes angry fist in air** lol... no, you're great too! ;-PLast edited by DarrylBurke; 03-11-2013 at 06:07 PM. Reason: Removed a word

I could be mistaken, but I believe it'll go away over time. I'm pretty sure this is called your reputation, if you want to google it for more detail.

Re: how to get rid of my "red" mark?
hmm... i've had it for over 6 months now..
did some googling as suggested, it appears the Rep points are only adjusted when a fellow user "reps" your post (either positive or negative). so basically without soliciting users to "rep" you, then you likely won't be "repped" much as many users don't seem aware of the system. Also, from what I gathered, the "rep" points don't really mean much on this site since they aren't used to "upvote" answers, etc. Its more or less used as a guide to who's senior on the forums and who's not... etc...
What does rep power mean in our site?
so i guess i'll start soliciting Rep of my posts! :)
Thanks!

Re: how to get rid of my "red" mark?
It has been my observation, that reps only seem to have effect from folks with non-zero rep power. Which implies that someone must have been born with rep power, otherwise, no one would have it (or the system evolved and folks were grandfathered). And rep power apparently has little to do the number of green rectangles below ones id. However, to me, likes are more meaningful because no matter how trivial the answer, someone was able to be helped and showed appreciation.

Re: how to get rid of my "red" mark?
right, i agree on the Likes as well since they show others liked your post for the content.
I've gotten a couple Likes on my posts recently but was saddened when my ugly red rectangle didn't change back to a green one (or a grey neutral one if that exists)...

Re: how to get rid of my "red" mark?
Before you started this thread, I didn't even know there could be negative rep.
And as far as 'likes' and reps' are concerned, I'm happy just to see someone report here that his/her problem has been solved. I actually dislike that some members will just 'like' a helpful post and vanish, without replying to the response that (probably) solved the problem.
A simple 'Thank you' (not thx) is best, along with code or text that demonstrates that the member has learned something from the exchange of ideas.
