I agree. It seems a bit pointless - at best - to actually remove three letter search terms from the filter. It seems to be a vBulletin "feature".
You can have XML as a tag. (Use "Advanced search") But this is rather useless as no-one much uses the tags.

Who knows how it searches, but you can include XML within quotes "xml input", "xml parse", etc. (And on other VBulletin sites you can even chuck in an extra character which will be ignored. Eg you can search for -xml and get results. Not this site, though.)
