    Default Suggestion to mods/admins...

Ye seem to be wasting the commnity/entertainment forum by leaving it at the very bottom where nobody can see it and alot of people may not be aware of its existance!
My suggestion would be to add the community forum to the top task bar between Forum and What's New? to keep people on the site instead of people just coming in, asking question, getting answer and not showing up for weeks/months or even ever again!

    Just a suggestion!

    Thats it!
if enough people vote to get this going we might end up with a good social side to this already helpful forum...
Any mods/admins care to let us know howye'd feel about it?

In my feelings, it is not. As a forum user what I like to see is that the forum topic related stuff (in our case Java) at the top, and the rest are at the bottom. Exactly what we have right now.

Again, as a forum user it's my responsibility to read the forum FAQ and search the stuff included in the forum. Adding the stuff which are not related to the forum title/topic at the top could lead to deviation from the vision of the forum.

    What you guys think?

I don't think moderators have any special say (I know I don't). Our role is killing the spam and moving the misdirected threads.

One concern might be the fact that your average web visitor has an attention span of several seconds. So it might be considered better if their eye falls on "Java Programming" "Learning Java" etc. But I feel there is room for considering change here. (Also reread the OP and I agree that "Community" could be included in that bar along the top)

This forum does, however, get monitored by whoever calls the shots. So this thread isn't wasted.

    -----

I think it's inevitable that most people who post here will move on. (logically speaking it's inevitable that *all* will) Posters who are students or of that age will develop other interests and concerns.

The forums are what you make of them! At least that's what I've found. I have no clue what the aims or intentions of the forums' owner is - but they turn out to be places where useful and enjoyable exchanges can take place.

So post away in the Forum Lobby. New threads started there are an effective way of voting. Personally I don't think that the Lobby needs to validated by being the recipient of millions of random posts by random posters. A discussion among a few is just as legitimate. (In my new found role as forum cynic I spurn popularity.)

Given the cultural and other diversity here I have to say that I for one would appreciate more use being made of the Lobby.

    And helping others too. ;)

As you said forum should be knowledgeable as well as enjoyable. Otherwise people frustrate with the forum and leave. We consider that fact a long time ago too, and that's why our Admin introduce new sections like Forum Lobby and so on. With the time we need to do such improvements to keep the forum alive. But the thing we must careful that not take too much away from the knowledge sharing stuff over the punctuation. I have seen lots of such forums, and at the end no way of move.

Thumbs up Re: Suggestion to mods/admins...

By all means I agree with ye about it being java coding forum to help people, and I know from experience cause I might have failed first semester Java programmingn only for ye!... so cheers for that!
But I just see the community not being used to its fullest and hidden away down here as wasted potential to make this forum bigger. I hope they do at least give it a try by putting it on the top menu bar and see if it can strenghten the forums reputation and keep people around as said "community".

There does tend to be a community here. It's comprised of moderators as well as a few others (I'll leave out names). I'm sure if you look around you will see the same 10-15 people posting quite often. That being said, many, many people are looking for help with problems and are not going to look at the lobby whether you make it obvious or not.

I am not looking to quash this idea, perhaps putting it on the toolbar will be nice. Ultimately, whether it is obvious or not, we do have a lobby where I (and probably others) will encourage you to post more recreational topics.

As I said time to time we have to do certain changes and see how it works. So this could be another step to take on. My feeling is not too much , but slowly and surely. :)

I think it all depends on there attitudes. Most of the members are not stick with all the sections. Some people only interesting on Java basis, while some are on JSP and so on. What I mean is, if we consider a sub-forum there are limited and repetitive users are stick. Not too many.
