Default Left side bar is not just irritating, its frustrating.

Honestly. When the page is loading, the diffrent forums appear.
Then after 0.1 seconds they all gets hastely pushed aside by that side bar that
    automaticly starts playing a clip?!

I'v studied some computer science and webdesign, that sidebar
is a criminal in the laws of smooth webdesign :P

I would like to suggest that the side bar would be placed at the right
so it doesnt affect the rest of the site due to its slow loading.
Also, do not automaticly start playing a clip each time you update
the page. It's annoying enough to have it there already, dont auto play.

The video is distracting you inevidably (if one could say that).
Also, maybe a change of the top menu is nessecary, it looks prittie bad
to have the old one there like a badly cut-out picture.

    Hello Addez,

    >I'v studied some computer science and webdesign, that sidebar is a criminal in the laws of smooth webdesign :P

Is it different than a static sidebar available in many web sites or software? I agree that it slows down somehow but i think having a menu at the left should be one of the accepted practices for human-computer interaction.

Please see this thread: Video clips in side bar start playing automagically.

    As i said there:

    1. you should be able to hide the video block (or the full sidebar) once and never see it loaded again. If there are any problems with that let me know. For example it can re-extend after some time although it is not supposed to?
    2. i will not show those ad blocks (including the video ad) to registered users.

I am not sure whether i should totally remove the sidebar for registered users or not. Because for some users, seeing recent activity there might be a feature!?

    > I would like to suggest that the side bar would be placed at the right so it doesnt affect the rest of the site due to its slow loading.

Moving the block to the right is a good idea but i should think about it. I also would like to get attention of unregistered users to the ad blocks ;). And having a left block is better for that purpose. May be i can load the block to the right for only registered users.

Removing block fully for registered users is still an option for me. May be i should post a poll for it?
I will try to solve this problem asap. In the mean time you can help me to post a poll for this if you want. (e.g. for registered users: left is ok, right is better, no sidebar at all)

Your right about the fact that its common sence to put it at the left side,
right side was maybe not such a good idea as it is not commonly used.
But yea, a permanent removal option for members would be great.
Because even tho I have it minimized to the left, it will pop up and first when
done loading, it will remove itself..

Can it be an ordinary menu item, next to the 'What's New' or 'Quick Links' options? There is pleny of room there ...

    kind regards,

    Jos

I am waiting the payment details for purchasing the gold version. When i purchased it, i will disable the whole sidebar for all registered users.
We can consider adding recent posts etc as a menu item later. It will require another research and additional time.

Don't get me wrong: it's not that I want that side bar to become a menu item, it's just a (lousy?) idea of mine to move that thing out of the way. I'm perfectly happy if it isn't there anymore for registered users.

    kind regards,

    Jos

    Ok, thanks for the clarification.
