Default Questions about Spring 3.2.3 with Hibernate 4

I have been trying to set up a simple web server (JBoss 7.0.2) with associated JUnit tests for the DAOs using Maven to build the code. I can get one or the other to work but not both.

I get frustratingly close but there is always another error that I spend days trying to figure out until I give up and try another way. The last one looked like it was successful. The server worked, I could log in, read and write data to the database without any problems. I wrote a JUnit test and it appeared to work fine as well. Unfortunately I only tested database reads. Later, when I tried to actually write data through the tests, the Hibernate persist just quietly failed. It didn't save the data but it didn't throw an error either! I didn't notice that it wasn't working until days later when I started examining the data that I thought was being saved.

I am ready to just throw out everything and start from the beginning but I have done that several times already.

Note: JBoss 7.0.2 is really old and contains a mountain of truly game-breaking bugs. I would upgrade to 8.1 if I were you. If you must stick with the 7.x branch, then compile your own 7.2 version. I describe how to do so here:

Java Enterprise Stuff: JBoss 7 getting started

Other than that, the only thing I can give you is sympathy. You're only making a complaint here, not any kind of problem description.

    gimbal2,

Thanks for your reply. JBoss 7.1 and greater are out for me because my IntelliJ 10.5 IDE won't run versions of JBoss higher than 7.0. I want to be able to run the debugger when I'm testing the server.

As it always seems to happen when I make a post looking for help, I finally made a breakthrough. It looks like I finally got it to work in both environments.

I'd switch to a different server then. Are you sure Tomcat isn't enough for your purposes?

Most of the projects at my work are using JBoss in one form or another so I would like to stick with it for now. However, since this is for a personal project, I will consider Tomcat if I run into future problems. Thanks.

I can't argue with that logic.

I'll just say: I was where you were now and I went for Tomcat and never looked back ;) I used to be a big fan of JBoss but the way they handle their open source releases is just piss-poor, pardon my language. They call it a "final" release but they're actually just buggy alpha versions for their 20000 dollar a year license EAP releases. If today I'd have to use EJB/JMS technology again, I'd not blindly go for JBoss 8.1 but I'd also closely look at Glassfish as an alternative.
