Re: for mobile - codenameone.com
This has nothing to do with Swing.

Re: for mobile - codenameone.com
The UI API is a fork of lwuit(from the j2me days) and lwuit was highly influenced from swing.
I understand it's not swing, but I think swing developers can use this and I just wanted to know if any of the swing developers here had tried this.Last edited by DarrylBurke; 04-16-2012 at 06:01 AM.

Re: Review of codenameone.com
Having taken a look at the site, I agree 100% with Fubarable's response. I've edited the subject line on all posts to remove that word.
What is this, another miscegenated SEO ploy? You don't seem to be looking for reviews, you seem to be plugging the site as something it is not.
So tell us: have you used the product yourself? If so, post a link to a demo app you have created. If not, this topic and your account will be removed.

Re: Review of codenameone.com
not sure what you mean "SEO ploy", if you mean that I have a connection to the project you are right, I am one of the developers of the product and I truly think the product is highly relevant for swing developers and I am looking for real feedback from the community.
Placing this thread under review/advertising is your decision, but I am trying to reach swing developers and get their feedback/comments.

Re: Review of codenameone.com
Any Swing developers or other members interested in reviews and advertisements will find this thread.
Those who come here trying to help out with problems don't need it cluttering up the technical forums.
Quoted in reverse order -
I am looking for real feedback from the community. Here's my feedback: it's not any more relevant than, say, JavaFX. In fact, Java FX with its superior rendering engine, effects and forward-looking bindings which will really come into their own only after Java 8 (with closures) is released, is a step forward. IMO tweaking LWUIT for the desktop isn't.I truly think the product is highly relevant for swing developers

Re: Review of codenameone.com
The product we are shipping is targeting mobile - iphone, android win7, rim and not desktop
It is a full Java API's+tools in java to create cross platform mobile apps.
Besides
is exists for over 4 years in the market and with ton of resources invested by Sun and Oracle it simply failed.
LWUIT on the other hand was a huge success in J2ME.Last edited by jonny; 04-16-2012 at 11:53 AM.

Re: Review of codenameone.com
1. Looks like you haven't kept yourself up to date about Java FX 2.x
2. I don't see LWUIT as being a 'huge success.' And with Oracle taking over Sun, and Google buying up the mobile phone division from Motorola, it doesn't look like Java ME has much of a future. Android's probably ahead of Java ME already, by many standards.
Feel free to continue the discussion; I'm voicing my opinion, not trying to put you down.

Re: Review of codenameone.com
I totally agree with the Java ME future, Android is effectively "Java ME done right" and LWUIT was quite popular at least when J2ME was popular.
Anyways, to create an iphone app nowadays you have a few options:
1)learn objective-c
2)use web technologies such as:html5 and/or phonegap, which results in a bad performance app.
3)use a cross-platform tool in the market such has:titanium, corona and others, none of which offers java as the development language.
Our tool compiles the java byte code to objective-c resulting in a good performance app and with a full java stack(gps, camera, media, ...) and with a known/robust UI toolkit(which it's great benefit it's the Swing similarity) and it's an Open-Source project.
Thanks for the feedback and don't worry you're not putting me down, It's very important getting this feedback and I enjoy the discussion.
