    Default Java 8 difficulties

    Hello,

    I am doing a research on Java 8 and I was wondering if you could help me? I would like to know what are, in your opinion and in your personal experience, the main difficulties you encountered in using Java 8? Please also state if you are a beginner of an experienced user.

    Thank you in advance for your answers.

    The biggest challenge is to understand the anonymous functions, as it is a concept from the functional paradigm if one is not familiar with it.
    There are no difficulties, only unfamiliarity with lambdas and the stream api. Personally, I watched a couple hours of tutorials plus some time playing around with them to
    fully understand them. I had only experience with OO languages.

    I have done some programming with it. Like any new language, the syntax just takes getting used to. On a different note, your question may be a bit premature. Java 8 is officially less than two months old. And I would suspect that most organizations would be reluctant to transition to it any time soon. The last major syntactic change (imo) was probably generics in Java 5. Now might be the time to discuss issues with that transition.

    I'll be lucky if I can have access to Java 7 within a year.

    I thought I was the only one! My job upgraded to Java 7 right after Java 8 came out...

    I'm pretty sure that companies who invest in keeping that stuff up to date are rare. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

    So you have

    Java Code:

          switch (ed_to) {
             case "Java 7":
                System.out.println("Congratulations!");
                break;
             default:
                System.out.println("Maybe one day, when pigs fly");
          }
