(like this being "what is this" and "how do I use this" type of questions; knowledge based, not problem based).

I wish your advice would automatically be seen by all future posters too :/

It'll be a really good feature for a forum to display a notice to all new members asking if they have first done the necessary before posting their question. Maybe even include a Google/Bing/Whatever search bar...

These people will click 'yes' in a heartbeat. They register on a forum to dump a basic question which has been answered on teh interwebz millions of times. Do you think they have what it takes to become a developer? They will never learn.

Highly unlikely. This forum's adminstrator(s) don't seem to acknowledge suggestions or even participate like other forum admins. First, they need to use some technology like CAPTCHA or equivalent to curtail spammers.

We must have faith that at least some will dry up.

If I would build my own forum software I would trigger specifically on single-line questions to do a Lucene search on a FAQ database of existing questions and answers and present close matches to the question asked before the post is allowed in :)

I think it's a new school term starting, so new students only beginning to learn.

gimbal2, quick, file a disclosure before anyone can patent that! ;-)

Too bad we see the "Oh my god my project is due tomorrow, write the code for me or I'll fail!" people only and not those who actually do work.
