    Default Question about app

Hello, so I'm new to Java.
I just have a simple question.

I would need to create pc and smartphone app which main job would be for smartphone app to connect to pc app's database and to get data that is in pc app.

Than the smartphone app would choose something from that data, and return the choosen data back to pc app.

Can anyone tell me is this hard to make, I started learning Java from Head First Java 2nd Ed.

Can I learn from that book what I need to make this app?

What language and OS are used on the phone?

Gonna be frank with you. Keep learning java through Head First Java. Make sure you learn the language well before embarking on serious projects as this will save you TONS of frustration on reviewing basics. Stick to a good coding style and follow good practices. From here:
If your book doesn't cover swing learn some of that through the swing oracle tutorial: Swing Tutorial. Why? because you need some exposure to GUI development which you will be doing on android.
While your doing your learning you can learn about how databases work in general through some google searches - this wouldn't hurt. JDBC is the standard database API by Orcale (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You can checkout some tutorials on that here: JDBC tutorial
Once you've learned the language pick up a book on android development. I personally am working through the first chapters of: Android Programming: The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (Big Nerd Ranch Guides): Bill Phillips, Brian Hardy: 9780321804334: Amazon.com: Books
You can also check google's tutorials: Getting Started | Android Developers

Once you've gone through this you can build an even higher performance app by investing a bit of time on learning about algorithms and design patterns.
    Good luck.

"the big nerd ranch edition" - why do people insist on applying such childishly demeaning names I wonder? Seems like it is a good book otherwise.

    Nice reply!

typedef thanks for your help, I will do as you say hopefully I can learn Java and Android soon it seems very intresting.

I'm not quiet sure if database is what I really want because I still don't understand exactly how Java works that's why I said I want database.

My program would connect from phone to pc so is that really database or something else.

Pc app would have list of something that would transfer to phone app and it can be changed but on pc and automaticly updates on phone as it connects to pc.

I think that's like connecting to server.

It is indeed a client/server model. A database is also a client/server model. But that doesn't imply you need a database.

I think you have a couple months more studying and experimenting to do before you are ready to ponder about these kind of questions. The answer is yes: this is very hard to make - for you, right now.
