Default Is There an Example Using the GUI Builder and Has Some Classes?

I am at my wits end.

I am very new to Java. And the only OOP I have ever done is Visual Basic (that is OOP right?).

I want to develop a desktop application that has a GUI and it will require some classes and multiple instantiations of the classes.

I have done a ton of examples. Many work, a few give instructions that can't be implemented. Frustration!!!

I have too many questions to hope you all can answer them. I think what I need is an example that includes what I have described above with some instructions for creating it in netbeans. One that actually can be created with netbeans 7.4.

I keep hitting problems like I start a New Project, go through the steps like some examples tell me. The Source packages never seem to come out the same. Sometimes there is a default, sometimes instead of a default the correct name is there. Sometimes there is no my.program, sometimes the programUI is in my.program, sometimes it is elsewhere.

Sometimes the GUI won't appear unless I right click on it in the Projects window and "Run".

I almost got to where I think I need to be. I have a GUI and can make things execute for Events. So I created a class but I cannot seem get the class to be recognized with the "new".

Like I said, too many questions.

Does anybody know of an example that will walk me through what I described above? Then I can take it step by step and make my project window look like the example via trial and error.

Maybe then I will have some intelligent questions.

    Thanks In Advance,

    Pete

I found 3 GUI Editor examples inside of NetBeans.

    1. From the File menu, choose "New Project"
    2. Choose a project template from the screen-shot below

I don't seem to have that folder. Is it part of Netbeans 7.4?

I don't know. I currently have 7.3 for the Mac, but it may be left over from a previous version that I've had.
