Default Looking for ways to practice

I'm new to programming, I chose Java to be the first language I should learn. I enjoy it so far, but I've been wondering how to practice everything I'm learning and to do exercises that aren't dull and repetitive. Any suggestions?

    Use codingbat!

    CodingBat

It is EXCELLENT for teaching concepts and various techniques (in my opinion). Plus, it is very easy to use, and all problems are checked right there. No need to download anything either - all in browser.

At the beginning it is really difficult to do something that is not of the "hello world" variety, you have to get over that hump and get at least the basics of the basics in your brain before you can start to make things interesting. When you get to that point where you manage to do some simple things, such as apply loops, ask user input, convert a String into an integer type, etc. etc., start to create little games and increase the difficulty as you want to challenge yourself more.

Here is a challenge I've set for someone else to create Hangman:

    Beginner in Java Programming

I suggest you start MUCH simpler than that, but to give you an idea of how you can create challenges for yourself.

Quite a lot, unfortunately. I'd start with getting very familiar with everything you find in here:

Its important too that when you learn the basics you keep learning more and not just settle with what you have. Remeber if there is not a little bit of challenge in it, try something harder
With the right know how, anything is possible
