    Default Complete Noob

I am trying to learn java. I know a very few basics, but for all practical purposes I'm a total noob.
The tutorials are either terrible, or well hidden, or I'm a moron, but either way I can't find any good ones.
Can I get some real people who actually get java to teach me?
    Sorry for the dumb question...
    Thanks!

Holy cuss, that was fast. Thank you so much!
Hmm. Games, I guess. The farthest I've got in java programming was an unpackaged completely text-based game where you are presented with five options of obliterating your enemy, and you have three tries to pick the correct option before he bites you to death. I finished the actually really good but very short and incomplete tutorial at that point at got permanently stuck.

Have you checked out the Oracle tutorials? There's a link in my signature.

Must be a local issue with your system. They always work fine for me. Which ones are you talking about?

The ones on the first link of your signature. My computer's a bit older, so I can't use the software they want me to.

err Daryn... Google's spam filters are not good enough for you to be posting your email in a public forum. I would remove it and keep it in private messages if I were you.

It should still work. My laptop is at least 8 years old. You probably need to install the latest JDK. What version of Java are you running? You should be running 1.7.
