    Default Compilation problems

    Hello everyone!
    I'm new to java language
    I've installed jdk on my windows7 but i'm unable to compile my program by the normal compilation method i.e "javac Filename.java"
    please help me out.
    In my college the computers have windows xp and i'm able to compile the program by the regular method as quoted before.
    Please help me out.

    What does that mean? Does it blow up your toaster?
    Please post the exact messages you get.

    it says 'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,operable program or batch file
    FYI i saved the document by the extension ".java"

    That has nothing to do with Java and EVERYTHING to do with your OS. Google "Windows PATH variable" and then set your PATH (NOT CLASSPATH, I repeat, NOT CLASSPATH) to include your JDKs bin directory and then open a new command shell (as that change will not effect any already open command shells) and try again, OR type the full path to the javac command everytime you want to use it.

    Indeed. You have to learn everything about the tools you're using. In this case two tools are used: the JDK and the command prompt. You need to learn about both and learning about the command prompt takes precedence in this case. Luckily that's easy to Google.
