Default How do I use Java with Animation

I am really new to java and I've always wondered if I could use java programming to help create animations, this is one of my latest cartoons but I really want to add some effects that aren't in the program. Could anyone help me with this or point me to a guide to help?

Haha awesome animation! I believe you can animate by using either Swing (an API), or JavaFX

Those are the two I know, but then again, I don't have much experience with animating.

As for adding to your current program-- which program do you use right now to animate?
