    Don't hijack someone else's thread.
Your cure is unlikely to be the same as the OPs cure.
I've moved this to it's own thread.

Now, are you getting any errors in your logs?
What does "can't control my remote cameras" mean?

sorry about using the wrong thread, this is my first time using your forum. What I have is 4 remote cams (Trendnet IP400W cams), which are stand alone cams. I have them feeding into a website (a personal page at my local provider). Normally, I can connect to the website and turn the cams by using preset locations. Before the latest update from JAVA I had not problems turning (or controlling) the cams, but now with update 49 I can't turn any of the cams. I'm not getting error messages, they just won't respond. I can see movement on the cams (trees, etc), but can't turn them.

    What sort of Java?
Is it an applet or a standalone or something on the server?
How are you logging any problems with your application?

just the JAVA 7 update 49 that I downloaded from the JAVA website. I guess it is stand alone. I don't have anyway to log the problems that I know of, it just stopped letting me control the cams.

Can you make changes to the source to add some debugging code to help you find the problem?
Are there any try{}catch() blocks that do not call the printStackTrace() method, hiding errors?

How do you execute the program? What is the commandline you use? Can you open a command prompt window and issue the java command there to start the program? Then error messages would be written to the window.
If you don't understand my response, don't ignore it, ask a question.

I really can't answer these questions as a friend set the system up for me. I will forward your questions to him and see what he can tell me.

Then you need your friend (or whoever wrote this) to look into it, as we cannot debug someone elses code.
We are not the support line for whatever app you are using.

To be fair the whole applet-written-by-someone-else bit is a red herring, the question is about the Java runtime since the applet stopped working properly as of a recent patch version. Unfortunately, Oracle does not really provide any means for programmers or non-programmers to get feedback on issues with the Java runtime, other than a user-to-user forum on their site. You'd have to be lucky that someone ran into the problem and dug in deep to figure it out to get an answer that way.

Still, one might wonder why you transmit your problem to a bunch of strangers on a forum when you have someone trusted nearby that you can ask for help first.

    Not really a red herring.
Unsigned applets (and I suspect that is the problem here) were never intended to be something launched into the wild for general use.
It was (IMO) always a flaw to actually not enforce signing.

Assuming it has something to do with signing. Perhaps you're right, but then I would have expected mention of security popups, not that there is no error.

    True, true.
Even then, though, we're still not a support line for any random old app.
For all we know whoever wrote the code did what the dev did in the thread this originally came from and serialized some Swing components, but also had a Big Daddy catch block at the top to eat any exceptions.

Can you try downgrading and testing it again? Maybe something else is broken?
