Default How to run a service in the background?

So I have been working on a calendar/time management application for a bit and while I am not quite at this stage yet I would love to hear some opinions. I am making a system which deals with events as they come up however, I want to be able to do this on a very low level (eg planning out your day, etc) In order to do so, I was wondering if I would need to make some sort of background service for my app which would check current time vs event start/end times and push notifications as needed.

Is something like this advisable, should I just stick to minimizing my app to the system tray and be happy with it like that?

Also, how would a thing like this work? Separate threads in the same app? Another completely new app?

    thanks in advance

Reflection has nothing to do with this (and it shouldn't anyway); Timers and separate Threads are more likely to participate in this implementation.

    kind regards,

You can use a back ground Monitor Thread..
Also if a CronTrigger will be help full..
