Default How to sign a .jar file, starting with opening the command prompt

Okay, so I've been trying to figure out how to sign a program I created for eons, so that when it is opened from a browser a warning message is not shown.

The problem is that the information on how to do this is scattered to the four corners of the internet.

I've reached the point where I have the JDK downloaded and I've opened the command prompt, which I know I'll need to do to use the keytool.

Beyond that everything else is super confusing. So I humbly beg the more experienced Java programmers on this website, would you be able to give me simple, step by step instructions on how to take a given .jar file for a program and sign it, starting from opening the command prompt? I, and I think the rest of the newbie java community, would be extremely grateful for the clarification.

    What happened when you tried?

It'll work for both.. it even works for signing Android apks. The process is the same.
