I just updated today from java 1.6 to 1.7 in my AMD-based PC. I installed both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions, however the 64-bit version won't run (the 32-bit version is fine). I get the following error with the 64-bit version:

Error: could not open `c:\Program Files\Java\jre7\lib\amd64\jvm.cfg'

There are numerous posts over the last several years containing this error msg, but afaict none is relevant to my case. The problem in my case has nothing to do with the path, but rather the fact that there is indeed no such directory. That is, there is no amd64 directory under "c:\Program Files\Java\jre7\lib\", much less is jvm.cfg to be found there.

I suppose I could create such a directory and copy jvm.cfg from the 32-bit install, but that hardly seems user-friendly, and I don't know whether it would work even if I did do that. (Presumably there ought to be some other files under the amd64 dir? like something AMD-specific?)

Is this a bug in the 64-bit Java installer?
