Default i changed my path and now theres an error

Hey im quite new to java :P and iv made my self a problem
the story: i had an old laptop that i used to run a RSPS on and it was great but then when i got my new computer i was setting up the variables for the paths and so on, so im pretty sure i deleted the text that was in the original path so now when im trying to learn java from a youtube guide i made a small program and i needed to compile it and it says
    Java Code:
    Java Code:
    C:\1test>javac test.java
'javac' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file
the path i have at the moment is:
    Java Code:
    C:\program files (x86)\java\jdk1.7.0_13\bin;
if you can help me please do :P
    thanks

Check if there really is a javac.exe file in that directory.

Did you re-open the command prompt when you changed the path? It only becomes active when you open a new one. To test out you set a proper path you can print it using:

    Java Code:
    echo %PATH%
and you can change it for the current command prompt only using:

    Java Code:
    set PATH=c:\somepath\java\bin
That way you can experiment to see what works and then when you have found the working one update your environment properties. Saves a lot of time, changing it through the windows system properties is a huge bother.

And a final tip: reinstall the JDK and pick a really simple installation spot. I like to use c:\java (or d:\java or e:\java) and put all my java related stuff there. For example I have:

    c:\java\jdk7
    c:\java\jre7
    c:\java\workspaces
    c:\java\maven3
    c:\java\ant
    c:\java\eclipse
    c:\java\tomcat7

As said, all my java dev stuff nicely packed together in short folders with no capitals and no spaces - no room for error or dodgy scripts which don't understand paths with spaces in them.
