Sissie; real men (like me) whistle their class code through audio couplers of a tty line (1200 Baud or less).

    Hi ,

    yes you are right.
    for programing IDE require.
But that is depend on the level of programer.
if programer is very new to java then i suggest to use notepad, because mistake of programer gives very better knowledge.
In IDE provide the support for programing.....
if a programer is very good hands in programming then they must use IDEs for fast programing...

I use Eclipse. It is the only one i have used. i only really considered eclipse and netbeans when i was choosing, and I went with Eclipse because the tutorial i was watching was using it.

My Eclipse doesn't work but I would like to use that. I am learning it with BlueJ and I will be taking a course with it on jGRASP. They are all a little different.

NetBeans in my opinion has a more solid structure and it's easier to develop in NetBeans

My Java class has us using BlueJ so that's what I use for now. It's good to see what the more popular IDEs are so that I get an idea of what is more common outside of a school environment.

Often you don't get to choose. If a company you go to work for just loves JDeveloper yet you hate it, you're still going to use JDeveloper.

Good point. But I still think it would be worth checking out the more popular ones because I would expect they're the more common ones used both personally and by companies.

Everyone has their own opinion. But Eclipse seems to be the most "prevailing" one; not since its necessarily the best but

    a) its free

    and

    b) it seems to be the most popular target for third parties to develop integration plugins for

Case in point; at one point in time I had to work with JBoss jBPM and that pretty much meant use Eclipse or bust since there is only JBoss Tools as an Eclipse plugin.

For serious code, I use a serious IDE: NetBeans. It's free and it seems to work pretty well, at least most of the time.
For quick-and-dirty small programs to test a feature or as a proof of concept, I tend to edit with vi/gvim, then compile and run with a shell script or batch file.
