Exclamation Can someone please help with this pattern!

SO I'm trying to make a validation string pattern for words to add to a dictionary. I already asked this in a previous post but not entirely sure as to how it works.
I want to create a pattern that will allow words to be printed to a file only if they have the letter a-z, A_Z or a hyphen in them. Ie, Ice-cream or hello will be allowed but not hip%hop. Please help

Please let's stick to your original thread then. If you don't understand the answers then read up on regular expressions and ask for clarification regarding what in your reading you don't understand.
