help needed with.... abstraction / system requirement specification

Hi guys ,

I'm new with java , any one can help me to understand what is abstraction / system requirement specification or system functionality , I want to build or create an " on line course registration system " I mean the system's goal for the registrar to register new student , inter new course delete Student/ course and so on ! it will be great with UML also ...thnx guys .

That still sounds like you want a design (you asked for UML, at least that's how it reads to me).

Ok my friend , I'm new to Java and some one asked me to design an "on line course registration system for student " first he said do for me the abstraction / system functionality ( system requirement specifications) , so I did couple of UML for him he said no this is wrong , I want like how the system works , like register new student and compare if he already exist in the system ,,, and ability to register new course and delete the old courses and so on ....... can you help me please ,,,, .

What, exactly, is the problem you are having?

Well do that then.
Write up the expected functionality in UML.
Start by listing all the different interactions users will want to do.
You might even split users into various roles, but I expect that's overkill at this point.

Then draw them up as Use Case diagrams.
