    Default Invalid flag error

Hi all, i am trying to use a program but i always end up with this error, can someone tell me, in very simple terms, how to get over it? Many thanks !

The attachment's option it's not working on this forum....

Here is a brief transcript of the small DOS's window (using Putty on Vista):

    RedBoot> ip_address -| 192.168.1.1 -h 192.168.1.11

    ** Error: invalid flag ' | '

** Error: no default/non-flag arguments supported

Your program tells you that it didn't recognize the vertical bar (|) as a valid flag; don't use it as such ...

    kind regards,

Thanks, yes that was the problem, however, whatever else substitute the vertical bar (|), it's been read as an error, been that a space, a number, etc...

Most likely there exists a manual page for that ip_address program; it would be better to read it instead of guessing how to run your program ... you don't do that with the 'rm' program, do you?

    kind regards,

I did use a "l" instead of a "|" and i could go a little further. All i want to do, is to (re)install an usable firmware on my internet access point, which went awol all of a sudden and nobody (and i really mean, nobody) is interested in fixing it back, apart from me.
I am following a step by step guide to do that : DD-WRT Forum :: View topic - Flashing Guide for all Senao/Engenius ATHEROS products
I know it would give me many more benefits going deeper on the knowledge of everythings, but i also know that with only 1 life available, there is not enough time for me to do it, so i am trying to cut corners with possible feasibles shortcuts which hopefully will bring me to achieve the desired result, or at least something close to it :)))

ohh sorry, i didn't mean to avoid your question, i have no idea whatsoever of what a "rm program" is, it sounds as in "harem program", it's a really exotic thing to try but right now i think it's better for me to concentrate on the AP, if i can get over it, i might even go out for some belly's dancing or whatever else, i will keep in mind though.

After having read the link you supplied in your previous reply, I wonder what this question has to do with Java.

    kind regards,

The link was provided to show, that i was trying to follow a step by step tutorial, rather than just guessing, i ended up here after many results on Google would point out the "invalid flag error" to this site rather than lets say, a forum about vexillology, so, all in all, maybe it was wrong, but it went closer than you think to the real solution, compared to the other alternatives i found, thank you again, keep up with the good work, ciao.
