Default Is this unusual or weird?

So i started learning java programming at my high school, and we started right off with object-oriented-programming, going into robots, extending/implementing classes, implementing them, creating new methods and learning loops. now i was looking at our syllabus, and we have next learned about graphics, painting, animations, and are onto boxes/text fields, labels, and we are going to learn about scanners and printing out lines later. from what other people have posted, it seems that this isn't how other people learn. Is it unusual to be taught this way?

I think "scanning and printing" (i.e. System.in and System.out) are pretty much the first things I learned via Hello World, long long ago. Then variables, data types, and basic control statements (if, else, while/for loops, etc). Then object oriented concepts. Graphics and GUI stuff more or less came much later on, for me anyway.

For as many different teachers there are approximately just as many approaches to teaching. While some sequences and general approaches may be more generally accepted, it does not invalidate others.

Wizard0860, please go through the Forum Rules, particularly the third paragraph.

Ha, I remember my highschool geography teacher; he wanted us to play the recorder at the start of each lesson, for some wierd reason ... I told him that it was against my religion to stick a piece of dead wood in my mouth and he accepted that silly and lame excuse ... those were the days ;-)

    kind regards,

    Jos

Bakelite? Isn't that the stuff they make those Grolsch bottle tops from? My religion also forbids to put those in my mouth; we have to open the bottle first (according to my Holy Book ;-)

    kind regards,
